Congratulations Peter LoCoco, Ph.D.!!!

 

Peter LoCocoOn April 21st, 2017, Pharmacology graduate student Peter LoCoco (pictured left) presented his dissertation defense titled: 'P7C3-A20 As a Protective Strategy for Paclitaxel-Induced Peripheral Neuropathy' to a lecture hall audience, whose members included his defense committee. He then went through a review of his dissertation and a question and answer process with the defense committee, before he was notified that he had successfully defended his dissertation and would be receiving his Ph.D.!


Dr. FrazerThe Department of Pharmacology held a reception on May 31st, 2017, in the Pharmacology Conference Room, to honor Dr. LoCoco's accomplishment and to present him with his graduation 'gift', a personalized, custom, office chair. Department of Pharmacology Professor and Chairman, Alan Frazer, Ph.D. (above, right), recognized Peter's accomplishments and contributions as a Pharmacology graduate student including: receiving a Greehey Graduate Fellowship in Children’s Health, a Translational Science Training Scholar, an ASPET Graduate Student Travel Award, an American Association for Cell Biology Early Career Meeting Grant and a Stephen B. Milam Memorial Pain Research Scholarship. He also served as President of the Graduate Student Association and a UT System Student Advisor and sat on several different committees during graduate school. He co-authored two papers as an undergraduate and currently has a first author paper in review at JCI and two others in preparation. Peter's mentor, Distinguished Teaching Professor and Maharaj Ticku Professor of Pharmacology Bill Clarke, Ph.D. (left), also commented on the great work Peter has done in the labs...running experiments, mentoring, training, problem solving and numerous other duties requested of him. In addition, the Graduate School Dean's Office presented Peter with another gift...a new leather briefcase!


Peter graciously thanked everyone for their support and will be working with Ken Hargreaves, D.D.S, Ph.D., in the Department of Endodontics as a postdoctoral fellow studying peripheral mechanisms of diabetic and idiopathic neuropathies and plans to get a Master’s in Clinical Investigation to learn more about clinical trial design.
