The Department occupies about 21,000 square feet in two modern research buildings on the campus of The South Texas Medical Center. The faculty have well-equipped research laboratories. Core facilities within the Health Science Center contain equipment required for oligonucleotide and peptide synthesis, protein sequencing, NMR and mass spectroscopy, fluorescence and confocal microscopy, and image analysis including a PET, SPECT, and fMRI, as well as a bioinformatics core. Additionally, the Pharmacology Department has a new faculty member who is establishing a viral vector mediated gene transfer core.

The University Computer Center offers courses in a variety of computer applications and computers are available within the Department for Data Acquisition, Reduction, and Statistical Analyses. Excellent library facilities are located on campus and provide instant access to literature searches. Such searches can be easily conducted from computers in the library, as well as from remote computers.
