Research

Mitochondrial dysfunction, oxidative stress, and environmental exposure have been linked to Parkinson’s disease. Anthony is investigating underlying mechanisms by which exposure to pesticides lead to increased aldehyde accumulation as a result of mitochondrial dysfunction. Using mice with variable expression of aldehyde dehydrogenase isozymes found in nigrostriatal dopamine neurons, he is also evaluating the tendency these isozymes to promote alpha-synuclein oligomerization, as well as to investigate differences in sensitivity to pesticides.
