Research

Angelica is investigating mechanisms of changes in behavioral state-dependent interplay between astroglia and neurons in mouse models of Alzheimer’s disease. She utilizes state-of-the-art two-photon microscopy in combination with Ca2+ sensors, which are genetically encoded in select cell types in the brains of transgenic mice. This approach allows her to visualize Ca2+ dynamics associated with well defined awake behavior. The ultimate goal is to identify opportunities for novel therapeutic intervention.
