Research Summary

Andrew’s research is focused on identifying new molecular targets and therapies for rare cancer types, including subtypes of triple-negative breast cancers and Ewing’s sarcomas. Triple negative breast cancers are those that do not express hormone receptors, and unlike the other types of breast cancers there are no targeted therapies available for these patients. Ewing’s sarcomas, driven by expression of the abnormal EWS-FLI1 fusion protein, are soft-tissue tumors that affect children and young adults. This research has identified natural products with selective activities against subtypes of these cancers, helping to improve our understanding of the molecular drivers of these diseases. This research will also help identify new molecular targets for the development of more efficacious pharmacotherapies.
