Congratulation to Michael Eskander for defending his dissertation on February 25, 2019
On February 25, 2019, IMBS graduate student Michael Eskander(pictured above) presented his dissertation defense titled: ‘Role of Transient Receptor Potential Vanilloid 1 and Oxidation in a Rodent Model of Nerve Growth Factor-induced Persistent Pain’ to a lecture hall audience, whose members included his defense committee. He then went through a review of her dissertation and a question and answer process with the defense committee, before he was notified that he had successfully defended his dissertation and would be receiving his Ph.D.! Michael is a DDS/PhD student and in Dr. Kenneth Hargreaves’s lab Primary research interests are in the areas of pain and inflammation. His research team has published more than one hundred papers and one book, Seltzer and Benders Dental Pulp, co-edited with Dr. Harold Goodis. His ongoing basic research includes studies on mechanisms of inflammatory pain and pharmacological regulation of peripheral nociceptors, whilst current clinical trials are evaluating peripheral pain mechanisms in endodontic patients, as well as the clinical outcomes of non-surgical endodontic procedures.
